Staying Safe Out There

Ddg would like to wish everyone working in the law enforcement community a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

The work that you do and the risks that you take on a daily basis are appreciated. Just remember not to take unnecessary risks while keeping yourself and the community safe.

As usual, now that the election is over, the silence coming from the northeast corner is deafening. Look for any promises made to be forgotten or not responded to. It's the way that longshanks does business.

Ddg is still here and not going anywhere. Interesting information coming in, but as usual it will take time to let it out. Keep the information coming! Ddg has your six.

Still The Same

Looking back to the Ddg post in August of this year which shows an award being given that was not deserved or earned. The award still stands.

What does that show? It shows that when a problem is put in front of glick, he ignores it. How does glick know about it? Well, you should know that longshanks or someone in the command staff monitors this blog. How is this known? By the content of the idiocy in the comments that show up on Ddg without name and are deleted after being shared for a good laugh. Keep them coming!

Ddg can only hope that those comments are not being sent on county time using county computers. Unlike the comments sent to wte (the local paper that blindly supports this type of sheriff) in their published comments supporting longshanks that were sent on county computers on county time by county employees. Maybe danny boy didn't think that was general knowledge. It is!

So now it has been more than several months since the award was given. Does that cheapen the awards system? Ddg says yes. Do those employees that actually earned their awards deserve to be lumped in with an unearned awards recipient who did not have the integrity to decline the award? Ddg says no.

What will it take for longshanks to take back the award, discipline the sergeant for conduct unbecoming a deputy sheriff, and give the award publicly (with an apology) to those that actually deserve and earned it? It will take a new administration because the problems start and end on longshank's desk. This would mean he would have to admit he made a big mistake in promoting (yes, the sheriff has the final say on promotions) the said sergeant, ignored the problem after being advised of it, and continued to ignore it, hoping that it would go away. Looks like an upcoming case for negligent promotion and retention of said sergeant. That could get someone into the county's deep pockets on a lawsuit. Kind of sounds like ignoring the gorilla in the corner when everyone else can see it. It only makes longshanks look so much smaller by thinking that people are stupid when they are not.

Remember, the voters have approved four more years of this administration. Stay tuned, there will be a lot more to follow! Have another beer, danny boy!

The Day After

Well, Ddg did not expect either write in campaign to win, but it sure would have been nice if one had! You would have heard the puckering noise in the northeast corner at 1910 all over town.

So longshanks will continue on for now and the problems will continue to mount. Ddg will continue to keep you informed as the information can be collected and released.

If you work at the sheriff's department and continue to document, document, and document, longshanks just might wind up funding your retirement personally. You know that glick thinks that he is above everyone else. Kind of reminds Ddg of Obama.

"Let's be careful out there"
A memorable and true quote from Hill Street Blues.

Election Day Tuesday November 2, 2010

Tomorrow will be election day. You have a choice to write in either one of the two write in candidates (Bill Thompson or Jess Fresquez) as you see fit. Ddg does not advocate a vote for glick for any reason or even a protest by leaving the voting spot blank. Readers of this blog know the problems that have been addressed and those are just the ones that Ddg has started with. More to come, you bet!

Talk to your family and friends about how important their vote will be tomorrow. Of course there will be the sheep that will blindly follow the self serving information that longshanks has put out. Ignoring the problems that glick has created by eight years of non leadership and vote for the same person. Nothing to be done about those who are believing that "all is well, all is well" except to shake your head and be glad that you know different.

Every vote that glick does not get is another vote closer to putting in a sheriff who will put Laramie County first.

Thank you all for your continuing information, interest, and support.

Credibility, Not a Negotiable Trait

When does a deputy lose credibility? It is that one thing that is prized above all else in law enforcement and absolutely essential for law enforcement. Why? Simply put, it is your word against the criminal. When a deputy does not have credibility because he lied, what good is that deputy?

This opens up a whole case of 'if you lied then, can you show that you are not lying now?" The deputy's past and future affidavits, arrests, reports, and anything else the deputy is involved in can be questioned. What happens when the deputy is questioned under oath in court, being asked if the deputy had ever lied before in an official capacity while on duty? Does the deputy tell the truth or lie again? Obviously if the deputy lies and gets caught, there is a chance of being prosecuted for perjury. Well maybe not, given the present sad status at the district attorney's position, but that is another story. Does the deputy admit the lie and throw his whole credibility into question?

Again, this relates directly to the supervision (actually the lack thereof) shown on the department. That a deputy would even think about lying on duty shows that things are very loose further up the chain of command, ending with the sheriff. Of course when you continually lie as glick has done, lying must not be a bad thing. So what are subordinates to think and do?

As to the deputy being given time off and returned to duty again shows the problem at glick's level. The amount of time off without pay would have had to have been signed off by glick. So glick has approved a suspension that returned a deputy to duty that lied on duty.

As this post is for information about the problems that are being fostered and ignored by longshanks, Ddg WILL NOT identify the deputy, either in this post or in any replies to it. Those working at the department know who this deputy is. Talk to one of them if they will talk to you.

Ddg reminds you to write in for one of the other candidates on Tuesday November 2, 2010 because another four years of poor leadership is not in Laramie County's best interest.

Firing For Reports Not Done

So the word is that the two deputies terminated from working off duty security at the Outlaw was for not filing a report.

So Ddg must ask, where was the supervision for the last few years that allowed deputies to believe that they did not have to file a report regarding an assault and battery? Especially one in which an ambulance had to be called for one of the parties? No matter that it was for the one determined to be the aggressor.

Where was the shift supervisor? Does he not care that an ambulance was dispatched? Did he not know? Does he even know what his responsibilities are? It all reflects on the sheriff, it starts at the top and trickles down.

The answer is that things have been allowed to go their own ways until an incident such as this appears. Instead of properly blaming the supervision up through the chain of command to longshanks (who is ultimately responsible), it is much easier to fire two deputies than to put the responsibility where it belongs, right on the sheriff's desk. It is the blame that is due to the poor supervision that has been going on for the last eight years.

Contrast that to the deputy who had dozens of reports that were not done. This deputy was not fired, only given some time off without pay and reassigned. Where was the supervision on this one? Were none of the reports "important" enough that no one missed them?  Or were the victims involved in the reports not "important" enough? Do these victims know that they are being ignored? It boils down to the poor supervision or no supervision that starts with the sheriff and infects the whole department.

Two Write In Candidates

Jess Fresquez and Bill Thompson both appear to want your write in vote. Look to the candidate's qualifications to see which one would make a better sheriff than longshanks.

Your vote will make a difference, don't let the bs slow you down from making a write in choice.

Remember, Friends don't let friends vote for glick.

Write In Bill Thompson for Sheriff

Based on the email received regarding a write in campaign for Bill Thompson, Ddg will put it forward to the readers. This will be the second write in campaign for the general election, so pass the word and vote your choice.

Write ins are easy on either the paper or the electronic version. If you have a question, just ask before you vote.

Talk with your friends because:

Consent Search Quotas

Since when was there a quota (a minimum number that must be done every month) on consent searches?

A properly conducted consent search used to mean that you were looking for something specific and asking permission to look for it without a search warrant or exception to the search warrant rule, not just asking for a consent search to show that you were doing consent searches.

Since one of the "chosen ones" decided that there would be. How long did it last? Bad question. The right question would be why someone at the sergeant level is being allowed to set quotas to determine if a job is being done or being part of an evaluation. Does each shift sergeant get to set their own evaluation criteria?  The yearly evaluation that determines your pay increases, if any?

The proper question would be why this sergeant was even allowed in the first place to try and start something like that. Doesn't he think beyond his nose? Or is his head really that far up and locked? Does he not (obviously by this) know how to measure real productivity in a patrol deputy? Why would he tell people that it would be reflected in their evaluations? The word "asshat" applies here.

Does he not know how he is setting up future consent searches for further scrutiny? Oh well, he is believed to be an up and comer by the admin staff so this incident will just go be the wayside.

Ddg says not here and not now!

A Write In Candidate

According to ads placed in Traders today (100110) Jess Fresquez is mounting a write in campaign for sheriff.

Jess lists FRESQUEZ2010.com for additional information about his campaign.

Ddg just says friends don't any friends vote for glick.

At The Office

Well, things are kind of tight right now. Seems as though certain people have already put it in for those that did not support longshanks in the primary. No, it won't get better.

Ddg reminds you to document, document, and document!!!

Alway to Remember, Never to Forget September 11, 2001

A day when the nasty world appeared in several places and real heroes stood up without fear.

Take a moment and remember those who gave their lives while just "doing their jobs."

Fighting terrorists with cops and firefighters is a losing situation, which makes their valor even more outstanding.

Take a moment with Ddg today and be thankful for those that have stood on the line, are standing on the line, and will stand on the line, because it is not a job, it is a calling. Those that do it deserve the best leadership available. That is not the case at the Laramie County Sheriff's Department.

Problems, There Are Not Any Problems

So what is with the latest buzz at the office? longshanks trying to figure out where the problems are?

Seems as though a competent sheriff who had been in office for eight years would have figured it out before now. But maybe later is better than never. Yeah, right!

Let's see, i'm in the hallway, walking to my office on a day that i choose to grace the department with my presence. Oh look, an employee that i did not promote and whose nose is not up my backside. Might i ask him how he's doing, maybe even what can i do to make his job easier? Nah, that would be too easy, kind of like me doing what i am being paid and supposed to do.  i will continue to walk down the hallway, only acknowledging those that i wish to. After all, i am their great leader. They must respect me. i will look in the mirror every morning and tell myself that all is well, i am in charge, i have their respect, i am an honorable person................

Ddg reminds longshanks that real respect is freely given and earned. The enforced respect is worth nothing, but then again when that's all you've got................................

Protect Yourself, Join FOP

If you are not a member of the Wyoming Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7, the local lodge, you should be. As long as you are a sworn member of a department in Southeast Wyoming, you are eligible.

By being a member, you can pay for and receive legal representation for anything that happens that is job related, be it civil, criminal, or administrative. Too bad you have to plan ahead that not only the bad guys are out there trying to do you, but that your own department (ala glick) will throw you over the side. Of course it depends on who you are as to what will happen or not happen to you. Unfortunately that is the way that it is. Just think what you would have to lay down for a lawyer in cash to start with payments to follow to represent you. Makes no sense to knuckle under just because you cannot afford legal protection when you need it, especially when you know that you are in the right.

It makes the cost of several hundred dollars a year (probably less than your car insurance) a really good deal. You know that if you did not back longshanks in the primary that they will be looking at you. Can't refute that, can you?

Good news, bad news. The good news is you can join FOP, just ask at work. The bad news is that unless you are a member in good standing (dues paid) and have enrolled/paid for legal protection, it will not be retroactive. Kind of like buying flood insurance while trying to bail out your basement. No coverage there either.

So join and document, document, document.

Still Here, Not Going Anywhere

Answering some of the comments, Ddg is still here and not going anywhere.

Yes, we still have lives to live and jobs to do, but this blog will continue on.

Other information still to be published, oh yes and further in the future. Keep the comments/information coming!

Rumors of a write in campaign are still out there. As soon as there is some substance that can be confirmed, you'll see it here.

Will glick try and continue to ignore Ddg and the issues raised in this blog? Of course, but Ddg is the proverbial 500 pound gorilla in the room. You can only ignore it for so long before everyone realizes that you are ignoring it. If longshanks had replied during the primary, more people would have voted for either Raybuck or Thompson.

glick can run, he can't hide.

Thanks for Trying

First, let Ddg apologize for this late thank you. It should have been posted last week, but...................

For Phil Raybuck and Bill Thompson, Ddg thanks you for your effort in the primary. Ddg knows it took personal time and your effort in the political process. If not for your attempt, longshanks would have had an unopposed primary.

Thank you two again for offering an alternative to four more years of slick glick. Unfortunately, the voters got fooled again. Expecting different results with the same cast is not logical. But, hey, who said logic had anything to do with voting.

When Is slick glick In??

Since there have been several additional email comments received about tracking glick in the office or out, this will be the spot to enter the in or out. Remember not to enter immediate information the could jeopardize your job or connection to the information. So if it has to be late information, that's alright too.

The word was last Wednesday, the day after the primary, neither glick nor his wife were at work. Was that a sick, holiday, vacation or just I'm not going in day for the absentee sheriff? Or was someone just a shade hungover?

Friday, August 20, 2010

Say What???? Okay, Just Consider the Source!

Ddg looked at the WTE (We Trivialize Everything) article and saw that they declared a "landslide" for slick glick. Sorry WTE, that was not a landslide, but again when you have already sold out your journalistic soul,  does a more caca del toro hurt you at all?

Do you must really think everyone reads and believes what they have read in your attempt at journalism?

Unfortunately for your newspaper, it is your lack of credibility and investigative reporting that will continue to be your downfall.

Just Got Fooled Again

Well, the Laramie County voters got fooled again by glick, who is no doubt planning his retribution (ala longshanks) against those that he can identify that stood up against him. Ddg thanks the number of clear thinking voters who were not fooled by the signs, smoke, and mirrors.

Ddg will continue on, bringing you the low down on what happens and hopefully educating enough voters to allow for a new sheriff to clean up the mess. Ddg will continue to expose the truth about those in power at the sheriff's department. Ddg will continue to advise on the political promotions as well as dig back into the past of the politically promoted.

For those deputies on the street and in the jail, continue to do your jobs as best you can. The public does not know what it takes to do your job on a daily basis and most could not or would not do your job. Ddg thanks you all for putting yourself between the citizen and the criminal element on a daily basis to help keep Laramie County safe.

Today is the Day

Today is Tuesday August 17th, 2010. It's time to get the vote out. Voting from 7am to 7pm.

Ddg reminds you to check with your family and friends. Be sure that they vote. Give them a ride, make sure they get to the polls, but don't let a single vote get away!!

Make at least two contacts and have them make two more contacts to get the votes out and counted.

Today is the day that we elect a new sheriff.

Remember, friends don't let friends vote for glick.

PRIMARY TIME!!!

Ddg would again remind everyone that tomorrow, Tuesday August 17th, 2010 is primary day.

Your vote and everyone that feels this blog is right matters. If you cannot vote tomorrow, go to the county building on E 20th Street and vote absentee today. You can register at the polls today (absentee) or tomorrow at your local polling location. Remind your family and friends to vote.

If you do not vote for a change at the Laramie County Sheriff's Department, don't be surprised at what happens over the next four years. If you don't vote, you are condoning the mess that the sheriff's department is in now and approving of another four years of political promotions, supervisors not doing their jobs, and the people that put the political game ahead of the welfare of the citizens of Laramie County will still be there.

Remember, friends don't let friends vote for glick.

Told You So!!!

Several reports into Ddg about the latest scare tactic being used by glick. Keep the info coming folks! Seems as though all of the administrative types were told to cruise around, looking for the signs that did not indicate support for glick.
So the questions are:

1) Are they using Laramie County vehicles?
2) Are they using duty time like a certain lt was doing a few weeks ago?
3) How far will this regime go to intimidate anyone who does not support Longshanks??

One answer is that they are truly scared that it is almost over. Desperate people do desperate things.

Your vote will help make the diffference.

Friends do not let friends vote for glick.

Latest Mailing/Pick Me, Pick Me

So now glick is mailing out brochures with a preprinted label and without a return address on the envelope. When you open it, there is a tri-fold brochure with three pictures of glick, none of which are really flattering.

The first picture shows him with what appears to be a pair of identical dead squirrel tails perched above his lip.

The second shows him sunburned in a cowboy hat with the above mentioned dead squirrel tails and a strange expression on his face.

The third shows him with glazed eyes with the same aforesaid squirrel tails in a white uniform shirt that has a single star on either collar.

So, what does the single star mean? Does it refer to prior military service by glick? Sorry, danny boy never served in the military. Perhaps that is why he wraps himself in the American flag as much as he can.  So glick must fancy himself an armchair general (after all, the head of the Wyoming Highway Patrol only wears a colonel rank) who never served with the best of them.

glick lists a number of points in his brochure that "As your Sheriff I will continue to..." with the first being  "Bring a high level of professionalism, honesty and integrity to the department." Yes, you are still trying to bring professionalism, honesty and integrity to the department since you have not been able to do that for the last eight years! Keep promising, someone might believe you.

"Demonstrate fiscal responsibility" as you did during the last Laramie County Reserve Certification Course where you turned down a very qualified DWUI instructor who would have taught for free and instead paid twenty hours of overtime to your latest appointed street sergeant.

The other points continue ad nauseam and so could we, but you get the point.

Friends really don't let friends vote for glick.

The L stands for LONGSHANKS

glick's middle initial L must stand for Longshanks. After eight years of not keeping your word and eliminating or silencing those deputies who dared to work for the best interest of the department, your true lack of character has been shown.

Those that would give you another chance to continue to tear down the department from the top down must not understand doing the same thing with the same people and expecting different results is ludicrous.

Why are there the problems? Simple. The lack of leadership from the top has now manifested itself into the managers (lieutenants), supervisors (sergeants), and workers (deputies).  Not doing the right thing has become the way that things are encouraged to be done.

How many lieutenants? You have lieutenants spending several hours a day to watch the videos of the deputies doing their jobs. No complaints or hints that a job is not being done right, just someone wasting time that they could better spend supervising sergeants.

Sergeants that spend their time playing politics, not knowing the Wyoming State Statutes, at the office more than they are on the street, and not supervising the deputies because the sergeants either do not know how to do the basic job or are too lazy to be sure the job is done right.

Finally there are deputies that need either guidance, supervision or training and not getting any. Last you have the deputies that can and would do the job, but not doing the best job that can be done has become the norm at the office, not the exception. For the deputies, who attempt on a daily basis to do the best they can for the citizens of Laramie County and being there for us without fanfare or thanks, Ddg thanks you.

Voting Time Is Here

DDg would like to remind everyone to vote either absentee on Monday if you cannot vote this Tuesday or Tuesday for sure. Every vote that comes in against glick is one less vote it will take to put him out of office and be a step to restoring the Laramie County Sheriff's Department.

Remember to talk to your friends (on the side if you have to), but it is very important to let them know where you stand.

Any friend does not let a friend vote for glick!

Who Didn't Get Endorsed? No Suprise Here!

The WyGO PAC (Wyoming Gun Owners) has endorsed Phil Raybuck according to Anthony Bouchard.

The Wyoming Republicans Tea Party has endorsed Bill Thompson according to Scott Pease.

So why didn't either one of these organizations endorse glick? Probably because they made an honest and open assessment of the candidates and found glick sorely lacking in the qualities that they sought.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. Ddg supports concealed carry.

Can we say HAWTHORNE!!!!!

First, a Ddg thank you to the sender of this information. When you go out and send us information, it makes our job so much easier.

What is Hawthorne and why does it matter? Hawthorne was/is a supplier of maintenance supplies to the Laramie County Sheriff's Department.

Back in June 2003 in the first year of glick's regime, the budget year was closing out. So all the money would have to be spent from the 2002-2003 budget year. Any money not spent prior to June 30th with the items received by the purchaser by July 1st would go back into the general budget and the items ordered would be charged against the next year's budget..

The following information is available at the Laramie County Clerk's Office/Financing. It refers to Laramie County Purchase Order Voucher #046042 which covers Hawthorne invoices # 375144, 375194, 375194-1, 374582, and 375030. All were ordered by Captain long (Laramie County Sheriff's Dept.)

The Laramie County Purchase Order voucher shows the items ordered, and signed for as being "received" by then Laramie County Commissioner Jack Knudson. But wait, the one item on 375030 is listed as paper/liner at $20,044.32?

From the invoice #375030 the item is listed as one misc supplies and described as chemical, paper and liner.

Now it gets interesting. It is a letter in the file dated September 3, 2003 and sent from Robert Cook (Accounting Manager-Laramie County Clerk's Office) to the Laramie County Clerk, Debbie Lathrop. Cook raises issues that should rightly be raised regarding Hawthorne Maintenance being prepaid $20,000.00 (paying for items not yet  received by the purchaser-a violation of Laramie County budget procedures-and possibly state statute).  A call to Meg at Hawthorne confirmed that long had requested that they submit invoices for a years worth of supplies.

Issue #1 "Overstatement of FY 2003 expenditures."
Issue #2 "Understatement of FY2004 expenditures."
Issue #3 "Jack Knudson signed an attest statement that the "items have been received.""
Issue #4 "A vendor submitting fabricated invoices."
Issue #5 "Management participating in a practice to pad their budget through a deceptive practice."
Issue #6 "County money being held in an uncollateralized, unauthorized account."

"I am concerned about the possibility of other prepayments. This sounds a lot like some of the claims made against the Barrett administration. Please let me know how you would like me to proceed."

There was not any reply in the file. So did Lathrop simply blow this off?

Why was long allowed to pay ahead when obviously it should not have been done?

Has this continued to be a standard budget practice for the sheriff's department under glick?

What action was taken if any with long? Or did this just "fall into a crack somewhere, never to be heard from again"?

Finally Ddg asks, what else has been going on with the budget since 2003 that falls into the same category and has been ignored?

Information

Ddg would like to thank everyone who has provided input. Ddg cannot put out all comments submitted due to:
1. the sheer volume received (Thank You!!!)
2. not being able to verify all of the very interesting information submitted
3. some are matters that are more appropriately referred to official agencies (i.e. Department of Family Services, Attorney General's Office, etc.)
4. the risk of your identity being compromised and the likelihood of retaliation affecting your employment, privacy, or possibly your personal safety.

Realize that the local newspapers, television station, radio stations and other information sources in Cheyenne do not want to rock the boat or bite the hand that feeds them. They will not follow up on any information published here. That would require honest work, integrity, and asking questions that people might not want to answer. The information would have to be disseminated in an open and fair fashion. That appears above and beyond their ability.

Please put any information that you have into this post and it will be used for further posts and not published. Any other information from you as to your identification to help confirm what you are sending will also not be released or published.

Remember, talk to your friends and have them talk to their friends.

Please Tell Them How Good I Am

Well it had to happen. glick on his Facebook page asks for his "everyone" to write letters to the Wyoming Tribune Eagle in favor of his reelection and provides a link to the letters to the editor.

What's the matter danny boy, no real friends you can ask? Or do they know you too well and just don't want to lie? You have to ask on a website for people to write letters to the editor? Getting desperate now or has it been that way for some time?

Kind of reminds one of Bill Clinton asking for donations for his legal fund after he lied under oath.

Ddg believes the voters will see through your smokescreen. Maybe you can put up more big signs and hope they can remember your name.

Big Sister/Politics as Usual

Ddg remembers the last election (2006) when certain deputies publicly opposed glick. Some even had the audacity to put out signs and express open support for another candidate. What happened to those deputies? They are no longer with the department.

How did that information get back to glick? Pretty simple. It seems as though the sheriff's wife was driving around, checking deputy's houses. Will it happen again this time? Has it already happened? What do you think?

More Chiefs and Less Deputies

Ddg remembers that when glick was running for his first term, he degraded then Sheriff Allsop for his large staff. Allsop had a lieutenant in the jail, the patrol side, and an admin lieutenant. glick now has how lieutenants doing the job that three used to do? Can we say top heavy?

What is the price for too much management? Other than the fact that the money could be better spent employing a detention or street deputy that can actually help the citizens of Laramie County.

Remember that each management position, just like a detention or street slot has to have forty hours of certified training that is acceptable to the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) hours every two years to remain certified in Wyoming. So what classes do these mangers get to go to? Where are these classes? Are these classes necessary for their position or do they go for the "fun school" and not show up for the class in Las Vegas, only showing up to pick up their certificate?

What do they do with this training? Do they instruct at all or is it just an entry on their POST training record?

What about the deputies who only get the minimal amount of training necessary to maintain their certification? Do their political views play into the training that they get or do not get? Of course they do.

National Sheriff's Association

From down at the office, the word is that glick wants to be the president of the National Sheriff's Association sooooooooooo bad. That will give him another excuse (not that he needs one) not to be in the office.

glick thinks that another four year term as sheriff (you have to be a sheriff) will let him go up the election chain to president in the National Sheriff's Association. Gosh, isn't it great that the Laramie County Sheriff would have the time and money to serve as a national leader of an association when his office is in critical need of leadership? If you give glick a third term and four more years of political promotions, Laramie County will suffer.

That will be for you, the voters to decide.

Remember, even part time friends don't let friends vote for glick!

Sign Sign Everywhere a Sign

Looking around, you see lots of big signs up for reelection along with a particularly funky picture billboard on Del Range. glick (in his version of reality) must think that if he gets enough signs up that he can fool enough people for a third term.

Ddg hates to break the bad news, but people are not buying your drivel this time. It is time for a change, so talk to your family and friends.

Remember, friends don't let friends vote for glick.

Street promotion/On the Down Low

Again, shocking information. The last street sergeant promoted did not come from the top three on the sergeant selection list. What happened was that one deputy (not in the top three) and another deputy (not even on the sergeant list) were called in by the powers that be. The next information sent out by those powers was that the deputy not on the promotion list was the new street sergeant.

What a slap in the face to the street deputies who had gone through the testing procedure and were on the list. glick (in his lack of wisdom) had decided that the listed deputies were not good enough and that he needed to put in his personal pick.

So, why bother testing?? Just pick your choice. After all, you are the sheriff and can do it. All it shows to everyone else is what a small person you really are.

Of course it was at an awards ceremony this year where the sheriff hands out awards to those deemed worthy of receiving them.

glick started on and went on and on how this particular sergeant had done an excellent job. At an armed and barricaded situation, the sergeant had got information about the layout of the premises and weapons available to the suspect. This was critical information to the SWAT Team. This sergeant was to be commended and so on and so forth. Ad nauseam.

REALITY CHECK: The sergeant had gotten the information from two deputies who were working on scene who had actually done the work for which he was receiving the commendation. Therefore Ddg must ask, what investigation was done (if any) to be sure that the sergeant actually HAD DONE ANYTHING to deserve the award?? How many other awards were actually not earned by the people that were given the award??

Of course this sergeant, since he had integrity, turned down the award and explained to all present that he had received the information from two deputies who had actually done all the work. They were the ones that actually should be commended. All he did was pass it along to the SWAT team (of which he is a member) for their use.

WRONG AGAIN!! The sergeant took the award and did not say anything. What a total lack of integrity from a supervisor that glick has promoted. Remember, this person has a badge and supervisory authority at the Laramie County Sheriff's Department.

This behavior demonstrates the lack of integrity that has been fostered by glick through the last eight years.

Will this embarrass anyone?? Not now at this department.

Loyalty, not a one way street

glick has not been happy lately about employees speaking with the other candidates that are running for sheriff. glick's idea of loyalty is best described as the king/serf relationship with glick being the king.

The comments received about the way that employees are treated, based on the view of the administration has been interesting to say the least. More information on that in a later post.

If you say hello to glick, he may say hello back, depending on who you are. Kind of sad when the sheriff does not acknowledge employees on an even basis. glick must really think that no one will call him on it since he is the sheriff.

It is coming back to haunt you, isn't it, danny boy?

To DWUI or not to DWUI

This post is not about glick recently getting a break for DWUI. That decision is best left to the officer/deputy/trooper who makes the car stop. That is part of officer/deputy/trooper discretion and is part of the job.

What this post is about is a person in an elected position that cannot use the common sense not to drink too much and drive. That is the problem. If someone in a position of trust chooses to drink too much and drive, they are saying one of several things or all of them.

The first is "I am above the law." BS, no one is above the law. Especially if you have taken an oath to uphold the law.

The second is "I won't get caught and if I get caught, I will not get into trouble because of who I am." Again, see #1 and someone has an ego problem.

The third is "No one will get hurt." Ask an officer/deputy/trooper who has worked DWUI and they will tell you the drunk driver rarely gets hurt. Unfortunately it is usually someone else. They will also tell you that drinking drivers do not get caught the first time. Amazing how many times someone can drive DWUI without getting caught or going to jail if caught.

So what does it say about someone who chooses to drink to a point that he cannot safely drive yet does so? Ddg will leave further comments open as to this matter.

glick's promotions

Well, glick had to start with the department as a deputy and make his way to corporal and then to sergeant under restivo. glick was not known as a particularly aggressive deputy and most certainly not as a sergeant. glick did not make waves.

After the 1994 election in which a newcomer (barrett) was elected as a change to the "good old boy" school of thought that had rookstool in the race to replace restivo, glick continued on as a sergeant. glick had the one redeeming value that was considered the top skill under the barrett regime in that he was considered to be "one of the boys."

When the patrol Lt. Penn was replaced (encouraged to retire) in the barrett regime, it was not (gasp in astonishment) by a senior sergeant that had the tools and experience to handle the job. It was (drum roll please) glick who was appointed by barrett. See the Laramie County Sheriff's website (unless glick has modified it, kind of like he has done to other web sites) where glick lists his "promotion" under barrett regime as part of his resume. glick is apparently very proud of it.

Although it was obvious that glick had been promoted beyond his capabilities, he had other traits that endeared him to the barrett regime. glick shared a lack of integrity and people skills along with the appointed captain (lang) and barrett.

When barrett lost the election to Sheriff Allsop in 1998, what was he to do about glick who was still on probation as a new lieutenant? Although the policy called for a years probation, barrett simply ignored policy (as he had done before) and announced that glick had completed his probation.

Fortunately when glick continued on as a lieutenant under Sheriff Allsop, it became evident very quickly that glick was far beyond his element of leadership and unable to handle the job. Sheriff Allsop was kind to allow glick to be demoted to sergeant instead of the demotion to deputy that would have been justified.

As a sergeant, glick kept a lower profile, but was very unhappy about his demotion. After all, he was one of "the chosen." How dare they? They dared because it was the right thing to do.

Promotions for the Chosen

Time to look at some of the promotions at the sheriff's department since glick was elected. Do you remember that glick was upset (and made a point of arguing) with then Sheriff Allsop with the number of staff officers that Sheriff Allsop had. Look for a post to compare that number to what glick has now. Guess what? It's more than Sheriff Allsop had.

The pattern that emerges with most promotions is the politically correct moving up while those that were not did not. What was (and is) more important to glick was loyalty to him, not the department. There were a lot of promotions promised to people who supported glick prior to the 2002 election. Unfortunately after the 2002 elections, glick was unable to fulfill all the promises. This led to dissent within the politically correct.

In early 2003 after glick was sworn in, there were two patrol sergeant slots available. In the top three on the selection list for sergeant there were two deputies that had supported glick during the election and one who did not. The one that did not support glick (there was not any doubt about that) had more experience, qualifications, and street time than the other two. Of course, the two who had supported glick and had the same initials (jh) joe and john were promoted. More about these two in a later post.

When it was time for a patrol lieutenant under glick, the selection was a sergeant named crumpton. Now Ddg needs to take you back to the barrett regime to show how crumpton got there. At that time (barrett), the rule of the top three was in effect. That meant that promotion selections had to come from the top three deputies on the promotion list. There were two patrol sergeant promotions available and there were five deputies that were on the promotion list. After the testing and the dust settling, the politically correct two (crumpton and smith) were in the bottom two slots. What was a sheriff without either integrity or people management skills like barrett to do? These were two of barrett's hand picked training deputies whom he had selected. No matter that both were rather mediocre street deputies at best. The top three on the promotion list were all very experienced deputies who had been with the department for quite some time. They had however expressed their dissatisfaction with the path that barrett was taking the department down. A simple solution, barrett changed the rules so he could promote whoever he wanted. crumpton and smith were promoted to sergeant and the politically correct continued.

So later, under glick, when a need arose for a new patrol lieutenant, the political choice was crumption who was selected over much more senior and qualified patrol sergeants. More about crumpton's lack of leadership as a patrol lieutenant on a later post. crumpton continued on as a patrol lieutenant until he was "reassigned" by glick to dispatch to replace the fired communications director. Ddg has heard the horror stories from dispatch after crumpton got there.

Now Ddg knows that what follows will be a surprise to everyone. When crumpton retired from the department, he was "appointed" by glick to continue on as the communications director. What luck to have a politically proper person available and not have to look for a qualified person!

As the 2006 elections approached, glick and his staff actually began talking with deputies and getting their opinions. Of course this was after there was another contender. After the elections, the deputies were told that these opinions would be taken into account. Of course after the elections, the lines of communication dried up and actions that were promised were not taken. Ddg would expect that as these 2010elections approach, once again, the bait will be dangled. Maybe this time it won't be taken.

A later post will cover other promotions made in accordance with glick's wishes. Don't worry (cb) and others, your time in post is coming.

WELCOME

It begins somewhere, why not here?

This blog will also provide information as to why certain problems exist at the Laramie County Sheriff's Department and what glick has done to create and prolong the problems. The only solution is to not reelect glick or one of his minions in 2010.

The number one problem at the department is leadership, more specifically a lack of it. It has existed since glick first took office in 2003 and continues to this date. The cronyism that permeates the department will also be addressed
.This blog spot is dedicated to informing the Laramie County public of the problems with the last eight years of danny glick as Laramie County Sheriff. It is painfully obvious that the local newspaper (WTE), the Cheyenne Herald, and other local media outlets are too eager to kowtow to glick.

This blog takes note of the very dedicated deputies of the Laramie County Sheriff's Department who continue to do their jobs the very best that they can and provide the essential services to the citizens of Laramie County. The comments on this blog will hopefully mean that your leadership will change later this year. You do a thankless job most of the time. Ddg thanks you for all that you do and for your professionalism in doing a job that few can or would do. Those deputies that have done their jobs without regard to political favor are to be commended; those that have used political favor will be addressed.

Remember when glick first announced his candidacy? Ddg does! glick stated that he had no experience in talking in front of people, but would have to get good at it. glick has become a master (giving him credit) of the art of telling folks what they want to hear and how they want to hear it.

Of course the deputies were also not receiving the proper training according to glick. Ddg will be showing the voting public very closely at what glick has not done for training since he was elected sheriff.
If you listen to glick when he talks, he pays very good lip service to the deputies, but then there is the real way they are treated. Ddg will talk about promotions and other topics that glick would rather that you did not hear about.

Add to that what glick has not done for the Laramie County Sheriff's Reserve Deputies, but has done to them. A special thank you from Ddg to the Reserve Deputies for all the thankless and unpaid hours that you put in.

As Ddg have regular jobs, please do not expect that the blog will be updated as quickly as you or we would like. Comments will be moderated.

Ddg will not support any specific candidate. Ddg will only tell you why you should not vote for glick. If you choose to do so after being informed, that is your choice.

We welcome comments and further information regarding items posted as well as information on other goings on at the department that need to be addressed. Any sources of information will not be disclosed.
